What to Expect
Dr Maureen and team will take a series of facial photographs, and also use her nifty Itero 5D intraoral scanner (which takes 6000 photos per second!) to capture a 3D image of your teeth. The data collected is sent to Align Technology along with Dr Maureen’s specifications to generate a digital plan; usually there are a few back and forth iterations of the digital plan to fine-tune to perfection. Once the Invisalign treatment plan is accepted, your custom aligners are ready to be printed. Dr Maureen will monitor very closely the fit of your aligners (which are changed weekly or biweekly) and your commitment to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. Treatment time will vary, but can be as short as 6 months.
The Benefits
Aside from obtaining a perfected smile, teeth that are aligned allows for better hygiene (easier brushing and flossing) which decreases the chance of gum disease and bone loss. A proper bite also decreases the risk of tooth wear, and protects the teeth from the effects of grinding and clenching. A bite that is aligned also allows for proper function of the jaw muscles, which decreases the risk of TMJ dysfunction.
